SFTPPlus MFT costs $4,750 in the first year, consisting of $3,800 for perpetual server and client licences and $950 for annual standard support. Following years cost $950 for support, with no repeat licence purchase. All supported client connectors and server protocols are included in these published prices.

For IBM, the rounded $80,000 first-year and $16,000 renewal budgets assume one production deployment and 10 licensed connections. IBM counts configured partner connections, including inbound and outbound connections, rather than concurrent network sessions. Why choose SFTPPlus MFT ​

SFTPPlus MFT is a better fit when the main job is moving files between partners, storage services, Oracle tables, and IBM MQ queues, with a small set of components to operate.

Its single INI configuration file can be reviewed in source control and deployed with existing automation. There is no separate application database to administer.

For example, a partner uploads a document over SFTP and an automated transfer writes its content into an existing Oracle table. Configure the Oracle connection and SQL mapping, then use the same scheduling, filtering, retry, and audit settings as other transfers. The reverse flow reads a row as a file and delivers it to a partner. There is no separate extraction script or PL/SQL procedure to deploy. IBM's JDBC adapter can also execute ordinary SQL; SFTPPlus MFT's advantage for this workflow is its integrated directory and file model.

The combined licence includes AS2, IBM MQ, and the other supported client connectors without a separate protocol or partner charge. Published pricing and included testing environments make licence budgeting straightforward as partner counts grow.

When IBM Sterling is a better fit ​

Sterling is a better fit when file exchange is part of a wider business document integration system. Its Map Editor supports EDI, XML, delimited formats, and SQL data mapping. SFTPPlus MFT can transport these documents and perform configured file processing, but equivalent structured translation needs an external tool.

IBM also supports existing Connect:Direct networks, additional partner protocols such as AS3 and Odette FTP, and EBICS with the appropriate financial services licences. Its native S3 connector is available today; SFTPPlus MFT lists native S3 support on its roadmap. Partner transaction reports and Global Mailbox's geographic payload replication address requirements beyond the SFTPPlus Web Client and cluster configuration features.

IBM sources include File Gateway adapters, SQL and Oracle integration, Native PGP, and licence requirements.

The IBM price estimate uses the January 2026 Triad VITA procurement schedule, before discounts. Ten Essentials connections at $5,372 each (D22I3LL) total $53,720, with renewal at $1,071 each (E0PXQLL), or $10,710 per year. We add an unquoted allowance of $25,000 initially and $5,000 annually for B2B Integrator and AS2 entitlements covering the compared Oracle, MQ, SharePoint, Azure Blob, and PGP integration requirements. This gives $78,720 initially and $15,710 annually, rounded to the table's $80,000 and $16,000. The allowance is our estimate, not a vendor price or a price ceiling; an IBM quote must confirm the full configuration and entitlements. Restricted-use Secure Proxy, Control Center, and Connect:Direct Solo components already bundled with Essentials are not charged again. Both estimates assume existing infrastructure and exclude taxes, implementation, database and operating system costs, and external Oracle and MQ server licences. Active high availability, IBM non-production licences, Global Mailbox, and financial services options require separate scoping.
