SFTP and managed file transfers on legacy platforms
SFTPPlus MFT supports file transfers on older operating systems and hardware, as well as connections to older database servers. If your business depends on an established environment, we can help you confirm a supported deployment before you plan an upgrade or introduce a new file transfer service.
Replacing a server can mean changing business applications, checking partner connections, and finding a maintenance window for services that people depend on every day. Hardware that still handles its workload may also have years of useful service left. We put significant engineering effort into maintaining compatibility so customers have time to prepare those changes.
Support for older environments
The following table summarises available SFTPPlus MFT support. It is not a list of platforms supported by every release. An older operating system may require an earlier supported version or a specific installation package.

Red Hat ended the regular maintenance phase for RHEL 7 in June 2024, though it offers a separate Extended Life Cycle Support programme. SFTPPlus MFT support gives customers still running RHEL 7 time to prepare and test a move to a newer platform.
Our Oracle Database integration lets customers exchange files with existing database applications without making a database upgrade a prerequisite for that work. Compatibility matters for the systems at the other end of a transfer as well as the server running SFTPPlus MFT.
Compatibility takes ongoing work
Supporting an older system means keeping the infrastructure needed to build, test, and investigate problems on that system. As software libraries and development tools move on, maintaining that compatibility becomes part of our work on the product.
Our quality assurance process includes automated tests on supported operating systems and manual checks of installation, upgrades, and basic file transfers. This helps us catch changes that could disrupt an existing deployment, including one running on older hardware. We also maintain compatibility within a major release series so that routine SFTPPlus MFT updates do not require a configuration migration.
Examples of long term compatibility
Our support history shows the work behind this approach. These examples describe compatibility maintained for particular releases, rather than a promise that the latest release supports every older environment.
We continued supporting Windows Server 2012 after Microsoft's extended support ended in October 2023. Microsoft offered a separate Extended Security Updates programme after that date. For an existing Windows Server 2012 installation, contact us to discuss the support options available for your deployment.
We also maintained Internet Explorer 11 compatibility into 2026, years after Microsoft 365 apps and services ended support for the browser in August 2021. When a change affected the Web Manager, SFTPPlus 5.22.0 restored Internet Explorer 11 compatibility in March 2026. For customers still using that browser to administer their transfers, resolving the regression mattered.
Plan changes around your deployment
Support for older platforms has defined limits. Support for SFTPPlus MFT does not replace security maintenance for the operating system or database. Our life cycle policy explains product maintenance periods and the options for extended support.
We can discuss your upgrade plans before you make changes and help you confirm the available support for each stage. That conversation also helps us plan the testing infrastructure needed to keep supporting the systems our customers use.
