2.1. System Requirements

2.1.1. Supported Operating Systems

  • Windows 7, 8, 10, 2008 Server, 2008R2 Server, 2012 Server, 2012R2 Server. Full support on X86 and X86_64 architectures.
  • Windows XP, 2000 Server, 2003 Server, Vista. Only application accounts are supported on both X86 and X86_64.
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, 6, 7 on X86_64. On request, we provide builds for older versions or different architectures (x86, PowerPC, S390).
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 on s390x (IBM z Systems or Hercules emulator)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 on POWER8 (IBM Power Systems in big-endian mode)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3, 11 SP3 and 12 on X86_64.
  • Ubuntu Server 16.04 on X86_64
  • Ubuntu Server 14.04 on X86_64, ARM64 (ARMv8-A/AArch64) and POWER8 (IBM Power Systems in little-endian mode)
  • Ubuntu Server 10.04 and 12.04 on X86. X86_64 was previously supported, but we have retired the automated tests for these systems. Builds for these systems are still available for download. Please contact us if you want to find out more about 10.04 and 12.04, or if you use a different Ubuntu version.
  • Any modern version of Linux on X86, X86_64, ARM64, ARMv7l, s390x (please contact us in the case that a build for your distribution or platform is not yet available).
  • Hardened Linux versions. For example system in which only TLS is available and SSLv2 and SSLv3 are absent. (please contact us in the case that a build for your distribution or platform is not yet available).
  • Mac OS X 10.8 on x86_64. Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10, or newer might also work, but these systems are not included in our automated test suite. If you encounter problems on your system, please contact us.
  • Oracle/Sun Solaris 10 and 11 for x86 and SPARC.
  • IBM AIX 5.3 and 7.1 on POWER. The AIX 5.3 version might also work on AIX 6.1, but AIX 6.1 is not yet included in our automated test suite. If you encounter problems on your system, please contact us.
  • HP-UX 11iv3 on Itanium2. Please contact us if you have another version of HP-UX or are running HP-UX on PA-RISC.

Virtual environments and virtual machines are supported for all platforms, including: VMWare ESX, VirtualBox, OpenVZ, Docker, WPAR, vWPAR, zones, etc.

SFTPPlus does not include cluster aware logic, but it provides generic functionalities for implementing clustering.

We have customers deploying SFTPPlus resilience configuration on MSCS, Red Hat Linux, and IBM AIX clusters.

On MSCS, SFTPPlus can be deployed as a Generic Service Resource or a Generic Script Resource.

2.1.2. Software Requirements

On Microsoft Windows, the OpenSSL library is distributed together with the installation package and there are no 3rd party dependencies.

On Unix/Linux operating systems the product uses the OpenSSL library available on the OS. As such we recommend that a recent version of the OpenSSL library is installed to benefit from the latest security fixes.

2.1.3. Hardware Requirements

CPU:

The server will run on any CPU released in the last decade.

Since many of the encryption / decryption operations are CPU-intensive operations, using a modern system designed for server usage is recommended.

Memory:

Between 30 - 100 MB of RAM, depending on CPU architecture.

Memory usage will increase with the number of concurrent connections. No more than 1 MB will be used for a new connection.

Disk usage:

Installation size: 200 MB.

Network usage:

The server will try to use all available network bandwidth. This is normal for Ethernet/IP networks.

The available bandwidth will be shared by all connections.

Many of the cryptographic algorithms require a low network latency and a network delay not larger than 60 seconds.

2.1.4. Tested platforms

  • AIX 7.1 - IBM Power System P710 with a POWER7+ CPU.

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux on x86 and x86_64 - Intel Xeon E3-1265 v2 and AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux on POWER8 - IBM Power System S822L with PowerKVM
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux on IBM z Systems mainframes - IBM System z provided by the Linux for System z Test Drive program and on the Hercules mainframe emulator
  • SUSE Enterprise Linux on x86 and x86_64 - Intel Xeon E3-1265 v2 and AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
