AS2 for B2B and EDI file transfers

Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) depends on reliable B2B delivery between organizations. SFTPPlus MFT provides a complete AS2 client and server for sending and receiving EDI files, such as purchase orders, invoices, and shipping notices.

AS2 messages can be signed, encrypted, and compressed. SFTPPlus validates inbound messages and tracks outbound delivery through synchronous or asynchronous Message Disposition Notification (MDN) receipts. Its Drummond Certified status confirms interoperability with other certified AS2 products.

One profile for each AS2 trading partner ​

SFTPPlus includes dedicated AS2 trading partner profiles. Each profile records the agreed AS2 identifiers, remote endpoint, HTTP authentication, certificates, and file access rules for that partner. Incoming files can use a separate home folder for each partner, while automated transfers route outbound files to the correct AS2 endpoint.

This partner-based configuration supports many B2B connections without requiring a custom AS2 application. Administrators manage the profiles, transfers, and audit records from the same SFTPPlus Web Manager used for other file transfer protocols.

Separate HTTPS and AS2 certificates ​

HTTPS protects the network connection, while AS2 signing and encryption protect the EDI payload itself. SFTPPlus configures these as separate security layers, so the certificate used by the HTTP service does not need to be the certificate used to sign or decrypt AS2 messages.

Private certificates and trusted partner certificates are managed as items in the embedded SFTPPlus vault. A partner profile can hold separate certificates for signing and encryption, as well as old and new certificates during a planned rollover. This keeps AS2 certificate changes within the partner configuration and avoids interrupting other HTTPS services.

Connect AS2 partners to your EDI systems ​

Your ERP or EDI application can continue to create and interpret the business documents. SFTPPlus manages the secure B2B exchange: it collects an outbound file, builds and sends the AS2 message, validates the MDN receipt, and records the result. For inbound transfers, it validates and decrypts the AS2 message before routing the file to local storage, SFTP, FTPS, cloud storage, or another supported destination.
