We are excited to announce the release of SFTPPlus version 5.23.0. This update focuses on expanding our cloud integration capabilities—specifically for Microsoft Azure users, while modernizing our underlying security stack and improving FTP interoperability.
Modern Security Standards
Security remains our top priority. In this version, we have updated our core dependencies to ensure your file transfer pipeline remains robust against emerging threats:
- OpenSSL & pyOpenSSL Update: We have upgraded to OpenSSL 3.5.6 and pyOpenSSL 26.0.0.
- Python Runtime: The internal Python engine has been updated to version 3.12.13.
While SFTPPlus was not affected by CVE-2026-27459 (as we do not utilize the DTLS protocol), these library updates ensure proactive protection.
Expanded Azure Integration
Managing permissions in the cloud just got easier. You can now connect to Azure Storage containers and Azure Files shares using a Microsoft Entra ID application account.
This improvement allows administrators to leverage Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), providing a more granular and secure way to manage access to your cloud assets without relying solely on shared access keys.
Improved FTP/FTPS Compatibility
We continue to refine our FTP implementation to ensure seamless communication with a wide variety of legacy and modern systems:
- MLSD Support: Client-side locations can now use the MLSD command for standardized, machine-readable directory listings.
- MS-DOS Format Detection: Improved compatibility for legacy FTP servers that return directory listings in the classic MS-DOS format.
- RFC Compliance: Server-side MLST responses have been adjusted to strictly follow RFC 3659, ensuring better interoperability with third-party clients.
Flexible Email Attachments
For organizations utilizing our Microsoft Exchange Online integration, you now have full control over how SFTPPlus generates filenames for email attachments, allowing for better alignment with internal naming conventions or automated downstream processing.
